birthday girl!

Miss Sophia is turning the big ONE this week! Alex and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have (cookie) cake. We helped her celebrate as a playgroup since she wasn't having a birthday party. I love our playgroup! I know all the other playgroups say this, but we honestly have the best playgroup. '08 Dinosaurs rule!

semi-success with a fork

Alex has been trying to use a spoon and a fork for months now... with no success. He finally was able to get a piece of a hot dog on his fork... once! You'll notice that he tried putting hot dog pieces on his fork with his other hand without any success, gave up, and went back to finger feeding.

welcome, Mason!

One of my many pregnant friends gave birth to her baby boy this morning. Welcome to the world, Mason Facciolo! This will make baby number 3 this year for my friends.

heartbreaking

I hate sick babies. Over the past few months, I have attended fundraisers in the area for this sweet, little boy. His mom is a member of our sister MOMS Club in Madison. I'm going to make this short and sweet because if I don't, I'll start crying again. Gage passed away Tuesday morning from a rare genetic disease. Please pray for his family. He was only 8 months old.

the beginnings of a summer tan

For the past 2 months, I have worn nothing but flip flops on my feet. I live in flip flops almost all year round. I think I have 15 pairs in my shoe closet! This morning I noticed that I have a tan line on my feet where the straps sit on my feet. Ignore my toes. It has also been about 2 months since I have gotten a pedicure.

friends

So here is the number one reason that I love Facebook... it has reconnected me with so many friends from the past. And they have found me from all over the world, from the good old USA to France and beyond. A few months ago, a girl I went to high school with sent me a friend request and a message since only her married name is shown on FB. Actually, she graduated high school the same year as one of my sisters, but we were in plays and different activities together. Turns out, she lives HERE! Five minutes away from me! So a couple of weeks ago, we got our boys to get together for a playdate. Simon is a year and a half older than Alex, but they played so well together. It was fun. It's crazy to think that years from now, we will see our boys in school together.

oh happy day!

Chris had Thursday off, in addition to Friday (his regular AWS) day. We took it easy Thursday and Friday, but have had a busy day already. We took Alex to the park this morning. I love this particular park because it is at the dead end of a street, there are lots of trees and not many people know about it. In fact, the last few times we have gone, we have been the only people there. I learned about this park through my MOMS Club and when we had our new member social there, we were the only ones there. Anyhow, Alex had so much fun. What a great way to start the holiday!

a new favorite

The Sunday before Alex's 15 month well visit, I made a peanut butter sandwich for myself. Chris was working overtime (again), and I didn't feel like making anything for just me and Alex. Well, I had a bite out of it, put it down on my plate and next thing I know the entire sandwich is in Alex's hands. Luckily, I don't like a lot of peanut butter. But he was eating it, and he was having a little trouble swallowing since it's so sticky. And I was panicking because I wasn't sure if he could have peanut butter yet. So we went to get his shots that Tuesday, and I told the doctor. Dr. Klemm said that he was more than welcome to have it... went into this long drawn out explanation of why the AAP didn't allow it before. This was also the day that he let me know that swim lessons weren't recommended for kids under the age of 4 (guess where we were headed to that afternoon?). Anyhow, Alex has discovered the joy of peanut butter. And he doesn't like it on bread anymore, just rubs his finger all over the bread until he has enough on there to lick it off. Yum!

frat boy

I was trying to get Alex dressed this morning, and managed to get on his shorts before he walked away. Usually, it's the other way around. I get a shirt on and he walks around with a shirt and diaper most of the day (unless we leave the house). Anyhow, Chris started calling him frat boy. I guess with his plaid shorts and no shirt, Chris thought he looked like a frat boy. I just laughed. And tried to snap a picture. This is the best I could get... he moves way too fast now.
