Chris told us not to leave the house for the next few days since there are two probable cases of swine flu at an elementary school here in Madison. And the fact that I hang out with people who have kids who go to that particular school does not help our cause. So we are on house arrest. It sucks. I broke out every toy in this house for Alex to play with today, and we still ran out of things to do.

Anyhow, he loves these drums. My sister bought them for him for his first birthday. Since it is a real drum, I put it away every afternoon and bring it out in the morning if he wants to play with them. Oh the noise that we have in this house. If I could just have one afternoon to do nothing....

old become new

After Ian spent Friday night playing with his exersaucer, Alex thought it was time to try it out... again. The thing is that he is too tall for it now. Even when we put it on it's lowest setting. Oh well. He is having fun trying to take all the toys off of it so at least it's something (sort of) new to play with for awhile.

that time again

Alex needs another hair cut. His hair seriously is out of control... his hair is definitely like mine. He has tons of it and it's very fine. It's hard to keep up with and in the mornings, he has awful bed head.

hi-ho hi-ho...

.... it's off to work we go! Today was "Take Your Child to Work" day, and Chris' work had a special thing where they showed the kids UAV's and tanks and such. It's hard to believe that he loves working with this stuff, but that's a guy for you. Anyhow, we didn't watch the whole demonstration of the tanks or UAV's, but Alex did enjoy looking at all the tanks. And of course, Chris loved showing him what he does at work. Not that Alex understood a word of it.

Before we left to have dinner with our friends, Matt and Kristina, Chris finally got to turn Alex's carseat around so he is facing forward. We weren't in a hurry since the car seat rear faces to 35 pounds (I think he'll be almost 3 before he reaches that weight). Alex was unsure about it on the way over to their house, but Chris and I liked the fact that we could turn around and see what he was up to.

Dinner was enjoyable. We don't nearly get to see them as much since they live on the other side of town, but at least Kristina and I are able to get together for lunch occassionally. We've had a busy weekend so I'm glad that I can use this day to relax a bit. It's a rarity that we go out every night over the weekend to hang out with friends, usually we can pick the day we want to have dinner with friends, but not this weekend. We were booked!

Last night, Chris and I went over to our friends house for a little happy hour fun. We love going to Jeff and Mary's house because we always have a great time. It's been a lot of fun recently because Alex and Haley love playing with each other. Side note: This guy that works with Chris told Jeff and Chris one day that if Alex and Haley ever produce children together, they would produce super-geeks. I don't know what prompted that conversation... maybe because all four parents have a minimum of a Master's degree. Who knows? Anyhow, this is the first time that we went over there and Alex enjoyed the arcade. He also gave Jeff the bacon wrapped steak his seal of approval. They were delicious.

best thing ever

Not really true, but it's pretty cool. It seems like every time Alex is able to do independently is the best trick ever - like when he started holding bottles and sippy cups by himself in December. But now, Alex is feeding himself meals! If we cut it up into small pieces, he can eat an entire plate-ful of food plus some. I love watching how he learns to do things. He grew so much physically in his first year, but his mind is exploding in this second year! It truly is amazing to watch kids grow.
